The county is replacing/installing a water line across our drop off and pick up lane. They plan to put gravel down to create a temporary entrance into the parking lot at the old BHS. (It's about midway between BES and old BHS) I am not sure if we be using this entrance for pick up today but anticipate using the temporary entrance tomorrow morning. Please go slow and be cautious as we figure out this temporary traffic pattern.
If you plan on bringing your child for picture day tomorrow, please use parent pick up lane procedure and loop in front of the building (entering at old BHS or staff parking entrance and exiting by Angelino's). You will wait in your car and a staff member will come get your child as we are ready. We will start at noon. We can't wait to see your smiling faces! All Putnam County Schools will be on remote learning this Friday, January 29th. This decision was made in an effort to get many PCS staff members their second dose of the COVID vaccine. Please know that teachers will be at schools providing lessons and instruction to students remotely. I do apologize for any inconvenience, and the short notice, however, we just don't know about vaccince availability in advance. We are all so excited to have our students back, this is just one way we can help everyone stay safe and stay in school! Good afternoon BES families! This is Mrs. Casto with a few updates as we welcome our in-person students back Tuesday…I have been waiting too long to say that! We are so excited to see our students! Just a few reminders as we “re-enter” the building… 1. Drop off for K-5 is from 7:30-8:00 am, please use the drop off lane, do not drop at door. Students are counted tardy after 8:00 am 2. Drop off for Pre-K is 7:45 am, please use the bus lane and drop off at front door. 3. Please send your child to school with a clean mask that fits! We do have disposable masks if they forget, but most students do not find them as comfortable as a cotton mask or gator. 4. Students should bring their charged iPads to and from school daily. 5. Students should bring their reusable water bottles to and from school daily for proper cleaning. 6. We are providing students with earbuds and a gallon Ziplock baggie to transport iPad to and from school for protection against spills and weather. 7. Wear proper attire for outside recess, we will go outside as much as possible! 8. Students should have athletic shoes for gym. 9. Dismissal is 2:30, please send any transportation changes in writing to school with your child. Teachers don’t always see your messages and we don’t always get to phone messages prior to dismissal. If there’s an emergency change, make sure call the office and speak to someone, don’t just leave a message! 10. Before school tutoring begins Tuesday Jan. 19 at 7 am. This information can be found on Schoology and a hard copy of the newsletter and menu will be sent home with students on Tuesday. Virtual families, We love and miss you! 📣 UPDATED: January 3, 2021 📣 Message to PCS Staff & Families: PCS Remote Learning January 4-15 As a reminder, the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) will not be sharing a Saturday School Alert System Map for January 2, 9, or 16. All counties will operate remotely from January 4 through January 15, 2021. On January 19, 2021, schools will see the return of in-person learning for all K-8 students five-days per week. Additionally, January 19 will see the return of in-person learning for all students in grades 9-12 five-days per week as long as the county is not red on the daily DHHR Map. More information to follow from the WVDE and the DHHR as we near closer to January 19. Parents may still contact their child’s school to express intent for instructional delivery model updates for the 2nd Semester between January 4 through 8. Requests made outside of this window cannot be guaranteed. Students will begin their updated instructional delivery model for the 2nd Semester on January 26. Free school meals will continue to be provided for all PCS students. Daily pick-up times for meals are from 11:00 am-12:30 pm at each school. Families will pick-up meals at their students’ home school location, curbside while remaining in the vehicle. If transportation is a problem, families may contact their home school to request meal delivery assistance. This meal service is free of charge and available for ALL students, whether or not enrolled in the meal benefit program. Therefore, we encourage all families to take advantage of this opportunity. Putnam County Schools has plenty of school meals/food available for all students. We encourage all PCS families to participate in this meal service. Buffalo Elementary Families, This is Mrs. Casto with a few announcements as we head into the work week. I hope that each of you had a relaxing and healthy week off! As most of us are fully entering the holiday season, I know things look and feel much different than any other year. May our focus be on the importance of this season, remember this is all temporary! Tomorrow meal pick up will be at Buffalo High School from 11 am to 12:30 pm. For students who would like to pick up 5-day meals please call Buffalo Elementary School by 9 am in the morning. Those meals will be ready for pick up or delivery on Tuesday from 11 am-12:30 pm, again pick up will be at Buffalo High School. It is very important that students attend TEAMS meetings and submit assignments during this remote week. We are taking attendance and students who have not submitted work will be marked absent. I realize this is not what our in-house students signed up for, but we must continue to educate our students to the best of our ability. I also know remote learning is not for everyone, but I ask that parents continue to support our students and staff by logging in Schoology, checking for assignments, messages and grades. Students need to be monitored for task completion and accountability. Virtual students you must be actively engaged in your education. The county has started conducting hearings for students who are not “showing up”. These hearings will determine if students will be permitted to stay virtual. BES…Believe, Encourage and Succeed! BES Families: In an effort to fed our students we would like to offer free food delivery to bus stops. We can also provide 5-day meals to all for next week. We just need you to call the school by noon Wednesday to let us know how much food to order and prep. Pick up for next week will be Friday, Nov. 20th 11-12:30pm. We realize coming to the school daily is not easy for many families. If remote learning continues beyond Dec. 2nd, we will offer 5-day meal pick up for all students, in-house or virtual. We have personnel to deliver to bus stops. Just let us know! We don't want to waste food or think of students going hungry.

Good morning BES families, On Sunday, November 8, I learned from the PCHD that we have one individual who has tested positive for COVID. This individual was last at Buffalo Elementary on Monday, November 2nd. The Putnam County Health Department investigates each positive case and works to identify those who could have been close contacts with positive cases. BES families, Hello, this is Mrs. Casto with a few updates and reminders. As always, I’d like to thank each of you for your continued cooperation and for following the guidelines set in place to keep us in school, I absolutely love seeing and hearing kids in the building. With that being said, the time to change your student’s Instructional Delivery Method for the second nine weeks is upon us. I need to know by next Friday, October 23, so that we may work on schedules and placement. Requests made after this deadline will have to wait until the semester in January. Please make sure your student is charging their iPads and bringing them to school daily. Students are missing in class assignments and assessments when they don’t bring them to school. This is reflected in their grades, but most importantly their learning! It’s hard to believe it’s the middle of October, the deadline for Christmas assistance is quickly approaching. Please check Schoology for information from Ms. Erica. Remember, tomorrow Friday, October 16th is a 2-hour early dismissal! The kids seem tired after their first full week and ready to end early! BES Virtual Families: Beginning Monday, October 5th you may pick up daily meals at BES from 12:30-1pm. You MUST call the office at 304-937-2651 by 8 am Monday morning to sign up for free meal pick up!
We will not hold a device deployment today. We don’t have the manpower with students in the building.. We will send the forms hone to be signed and students will be able to take devices home when the signed form is returned. We will contact the virtual students that need to exchange their device.
BES families: This is Mrs. Casto with a few very important updates and reminders. On Saturday, September 26, 2020 Putnam County remained yellow on the School Alert System Map for re-entry. I know that we are all excited to return to some sense of normalcy and we as a staff can’t wait to get our in-person kids back in the building. We will still enter on a staggered schedule with A-K attending M/W/F and L-Z attending T/Th this week. Morning buses will run 30 minutes later, parent drop off will begin at 7:30. Students need to arrive by 8. Parent drop off for K-5 will follow the same procedure as last year. Drive down the lane by the old BHS. Pre-K parents will drop off in the bus lane. Parents may not enter the building. The visitor parking lot will be used by teachers for now, so we can utilize the fenced in area for outdoor classrooms. Please know that in order to stay in school we must do all we can to stay safe. We must follow guidelines to keep our school open. We have worked tirelessly to develop plans for social distancing and sanitizing, but I need you to do your part also. I ask that you review the student health assessment that was sent home in the blue folder every morning before sending your child to school. We can’t risk exposure if you think your child is symptomatic keep them home and contact your health care provider. Also, if we call you to pick up your child, please do so in a timely manner without question. Note that while in yellow on the School Alert System Map, all PCS students (K-12) are now required to wear face coverings while on the bus and at school absent any medical notice. Pre-K students are HIGHLY encouraged to wear face coverings. I know there’s varying opinions on this, but we are following recommendations from health officials and the most important thing is to keep each other safe, so we can get EVERYONE back as soon as possible. To our virtual learners, we miss you and can’t wait to get you back in the building. I know we’ve had some technical difficulties, but I have seen progress with the staff, students and parents. We will continue to learn and work through problems together. As always, I thank you for your patience and support!
BES Grades 3-5 iPad Device Deployment Virtual Students and/or students who have laptops or iPads to exchange will come to BES on Friday, September 25th 10am-12pm at the front of the school. **Please bring your previously issued device along with all cords/chargers. 5-Day in-school students will pick up their new iPad devices and chargers on Monday, September 28th from 10am-12pm or 4pm-6pm.
BES Grades 3-5, we will have packets ready for pick up from 10-noon tomorrow. If you can’t make it during this tine, we will leave them outside on a table for pick up until 6pm. Devices for 5 day students in grades 3-5 should arrive this week. I’ll let you know the plans for pick-up. As always thanks for support and patience.

We will have IPads ready for K-2 5-day in person students to pick up, tomorrow, Friday 9/18 from 10- noon and again from 4-6pm If you didn’t return the signed Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) that was in the blue folder, you will need to sign at pick up. BES families: This is Mrs. Casto with an update for the week of September 14th For our 5-day Students, packets will once again be available from 10-12 tomorrow during meal pick up. Packets will be left on a table outside the building until 5:30 pm. This arrangement worked very well last week, I am so appreciative of the staff and families for their commitment to our students. When you pick up packets and lunches, I ask that you leave the Blue Plastic Nikki Folders with any completed work and all signed and completed forms in the grade level baskets. Parents of Virtual Students, you should be up and running this week. The expectation is attending meetings or notifying the teacher as to why your child was not in the meeting. If you have technical difficulties after hours you may call the PCS Technology Support Hotline Monday-Thursday from 4:30-8:00pm at 304-586-4946. Again, I appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we begin this school year. Your perseverance and willingness to adapt to uncertainty will be some of the best lessons you can teach your children. If you need help, reach out.
